Japanese Soft Drinks
12
Have you ever tasted Japanese Soft Drinks? I’m not a fan of soft drinks, especially Coke, but I did try them. As for the Fanta alternatives, I must say that I was quite addicted to them. Japanese soft drinks do have much less sugar compared to the Western ones, and also less artificial coloring, which makes it less scary to your stomach ^^

Classic Coke does look the same as the ones I’ve seen elsewhere, say the U.S. Tasted different, but I didn’t pay too much attention to it. Anyway, whether you like soda or not, if you’re in Japan, don’t forget to try Fanta Melon Creamsoda. I know, the name doesn’t make sense and it is gramatically incorrect, but it tastes great — for a mere ¥120 ^^; though dispensing machine’s prices vary from place to place, and tourist sites are obviously on the expensive side. I took these two pictures at the Tokyo Tower I think.

Your life is not complete without tasting Melon Cream Soda. Not sure if it’s available elsewhere outside of Japan, does anybody know? My sister did desperately try to find it in Taiwan with no luck though.

The presentation is quite funky and I had my doubts about its taste, but it met up my expectation.
Update: Here’s a Japanese Fanta commercial, very short but I’m still laughing :D how can you not drink Fanta after seeing this?
First two photos were taken by me, last two from Flickr using this search.

I tried Grape Fanta but the taste was too over whelming, I couldn’t drink a whole can.
Cool article Hao, and some colourful piccies!
Last summer I had cucumber flavoured Pepsi once, and only once. With each sip I thought “what were they thinking?” :-)
An article about it is here.
I don’t drink soda, haven’t for years, but I’d try anything Japanese :D
I haven’t tried Japanese Fanta, but I’m a fan of Ramune. I’d buy it over a case of Pepsi anyday. ^^
(writing in spanish because i want huh)
En CR no tenemos ese sabor, pero…no creo que sepa bien…
Carlie: Forget about grape fanta, go for the Melon creamsoda, your life is not complete if you don’t. If you don’t like it you can slap me in the face* :)
reesan: Yeah, I heard about cucumber pepsi, it was probably their lame version of melon creamsoda. Sounds quite un-tasty :D
Jamaipanese: not only do I not drink soda, I hate it. However, drinks in Japan all have much less sugar compared to the Western ones, so they’re quite addictive in fact ^^
Sanjo-chan: I haven’t tasted Ramune, am I not ready to die yet? XD
rotaku: En realidad sabe muy bien, el nombre es puro adorno, mucho mejor que las sodas de por acá :D bueno al menos para mí!
* Only once >_<
Wow – if you think THAT Fanta commercial is great, you haven’t seen anything yet! Do yourself a favor and hit this playlist of school-related commercials (fansubbed in English): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-10zjT4OLE
Deas: Hahaha yes, that one is much better, actually someone also sent it to me from my member post @ Dannychoo, epic! The DJ and shogun kick ass :D
I decided to use the short one since most of us have a short attention span but that one is great, watching it again ^^
I can’t wait to try them all out!!..
I’m lucky to live a half hour away from a small Japanese food store, and from what I can see they don’t sell the fanta. But they do sell Ramune, Calpico, Calpico Milk Soda, and quite a varitey of teas.
When I visit Japan sometime in the future I’ll make sure to buy one of those melon fanta cream sodas.
Thanks
Soriana <3
Melon cream soda is awesome! I happened to pick up a apple flavored one down at the local Japanese store today…Have yet to try it.
I agree…Japanese soda tastes a lot better than American ones….. Their fruit juices are rather good too…They taste a lot like candy.
MelonCreamSoda is DELICIOUS! I miss that about Japan probably as much as the life.
