    The latest installment of The King of Fighters series by SNK Playmore, KOF XII. was released this April 10th in Japan for Taito Type X2 type Arcades, and features 2D high-res dot (sprite) art like never seen before! Ninja Boots

    Initially thought they were Ninja Boots, spotted by Ale Pepino, but the author had an even better idea: Ninja Turtles cosplay boots! ^^;;

    Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan Shrines and Temples

    Though Kyoto is my favorite place for temples and shrines sight-seeing, one place that really caught my attention is Asakusa (浅草), in Tokyo. Asakusa has Tokyo’s most beautiful, biggest, and oldest temples and shrines, and tons of festivals all year round too!

    Free Hugs Pedobear

    Free Hugs anyone? Pedobear cosplay spotted by Angry Mimi. I swear I didn’t google up “pedobear + cosplay + hugs + free”, I’m innocent! >_<

    And for those who are not a fan of free hugs, what if it came from this JLady?

    Free Hugs Japanese woman

    Spotted by Neil Duckett (more pictures available!). The saddest part is that Neil was alone photographing her and he didn’t go for a free hug.  In any case, both hugs are probably a trap — pedobear is a bit more obvious though ^^; Who would you hug, Pedobear or the girl?

    招き猫 Maneki Neko Lucky Cat

    Spotted this 招き猫 on a random omiyage shop in Asakusa, Tokyo. The thing’s also known as the Lucky Cat and literally means Beckoning Cat, though I prefer my transration: Say Hi Cat.

    As the name implies, they’re supposed to bring good luck, especially to store owners who are beckoning their clients to come. I’m not personally a great fan of Lucky Cats, and with a 12,400 Yen price tag I expect that big sucker to bring me luck for the next 100 years.

    According to my Japanese friend, the cat is saying hai and calling you, but Westerners and Europeans commonly mistake the cat’s gesture for a waving or saying good bye gesture. Personally, I think the cat is just trying to scratch my back ^^;; How about you guys?

    Though I’m more of the Osaka/Kyoto type for temples, Asakusa has Tokyo’s most beautiful temples, particularly Senso-ji, the oldest in Tokyo. Prepare for an Asakusa photo shoot this week :3

    Instant-ramen.net April Fools' DannyChoo.com layout

    Do you recognize these two websites? To the left is DannyChoo.com, and to the right is Instant-Ramen.net April Fools’ layout (if you’re a regular DC user you won’t see the welcome page though — check the static DannyChoo screenshot). I promised to write about why and how I ripped mimicked DannyChoo’s, so here’s the real FAQ:

    Note: I did not use any of DC’s original source files (be it HTML, CSS styles, images), I did the whole layout from scratch, only by looking at Danny’s layout — my Dual Monitor setup helped a lot though. I was a bit scared that I would be receiving calls and threats from ninja lawyers >_<, but fortunately Danny Choo LOL’d ^^;

    Engrish Shit on a Chair

    Japanese love writing poems, especially when it comes to feeling ronery and doing their bowels on a chair, definitely not the most romantic way to wait for someone. I think they got the toilette thing wrong ^^;

    Thanks Rei*!

    BTW, I’m finally back with my layout after Instant Ramen April Fools’ joke, had a lot of fun with retweets, bashing from Danny Choo members (sorry guys!), Japansoc’ers, and dozens of Google users who were a tad confused. Just posting so that my RSS feed comes back to life, will blog about my risky decision of imitating DannyChoo.com early tomorrow! :)

    Japanese Cute School girl

    Been working on a few layout changes and work has been killing me, so if you’re feeling as pressured as me today’s cute schoolgirl may release some tension ^^; the new Instant Ramen layout should be ready early tomorrow, don’t forget to check back! I wonder what she’s thinking…

    404 Job Not Found

    Was hearing on the news that the Recession will probably worsen the high suicide rate in Japan. Every fifteen minutes, one Japanese commits suicide, which is quite scary.

    Anyway, out of coincidence, saw this picture on the net and decided to share it ^^ it’s the usual Internet Explorer 404 Not Found error, though it reads “Job not found”, and goes one saying that the Company that you were aiming for is f*cked up, and to please check if you were having too high hopes and that any job in any office or anything will do for now, and so on.

    My Japanese sensei always tells me stories about the 90′s Bubble Economy in Japan, which triggered a series of unfortunate suicides in Japan and its effect can still be felt — last year was Japan’s 11th consecutive year with more than 30,000 suicides. When I saw Mount Fuji through the window, little did I know that one of the forests at the base of Fuji-san — Aokigahara — is the world’s second most popular suicide location, just behind San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge.

    Ever since one of my classmates commited suicide more than ten years ago (we were kids), I’ve always wondered what goes through the mind of said lads. Despair, resignation, frustration… I’ve felt beaten and stomped by life before, finding it hard to stand up and keep on going, and I can’t imagine how people keep on living after things ten times worse than my small insignificant problems. I know some people think it’s irresponsible and somewhat coward, but I really feel pity for them. Oh well ^^;

    megane glasses Japanese girl

    Been busy with work stuff and improving Instant Ramen’s layout a bit (in the meantime, we apologize for any turbulence the passengers may feel ^^), and this girl helped me relief some stress, though I prefer her before picture with glasses. Maybe it’s just me?

    Via Neta.

    Megane Girls anyone?
