    Mario Pipe

Anyone here a diehard Mario fan? I used to be one, but since I don’t have that much time and modern game are not my thing, didn’t play Mario Sunshine or Mario Galaxy through. However, I’m dying for Super Mario RPG 3 (known as Mario & Luigi Saga) for the Nintendo DS to come out in English, epic games! Mario and Luigi Partners in Time was my first Nintendo DS game and I enjoyed every single moment of it — almost as much as I enjoyed Advance Wars.

    Instant-ramen.net April Fools' DannyChoo.com layout

Do you recognize these two websites? To the left is DannyChoo.com, and to the right is Instant-Ramen.net April Fools’ layout (if you’re a regular DC user you won’t see the welcome page though — check the static DannyChoo screenshot). I promised to write about why and how I ripped mimicked DannyChoo’s, so here’s the real FAQ:

    Note: I did not use any of DC’s original source files (be it HTML, CSS styles, images), I did the whole layout from scratch, only by looking at Danny’s layout — my Dual Monitor setup helped a lot though. I was a bit scared that I would be receiving calls and threats from ninja lawyers >_<, but fortunately Danny Choo LOL’d ^^;

    Totoro at Tokyo International Fair

The Tokyo International Anime Fair 2009, one of the largest anime trade fairs in the world, was held last week in the Tokyo Big Sight, home of the Comiket too, the biggest comic convention in the world. Oh, and I want that Totoro in my room!

Crunchyroll has become a Public Japanese Company

If you’re into animé or JDrama, you probably know about crunchyroll, a website founded in 2006 by some students containing tons of high-quality dubbed series, perfect for people like me who are addicted to it, JDrama in my case ^^

Anyway, the website started to catch the media’s attention and with hundreds of thousands of views, venture capital and legal problems came. Famous licensed series and movies were quickly removed, and after raising $4 million (!) investment capital from Venrock, other less known series were removed too, even though they were not licensed outside of Japan Y_Y

    Pro Wrestling Figure

Here’s a funny Pro Wrestling figure. Many Japanese folks are die hard fans of pro wrestling, so if you’re into cute girls in swimsuits performing German Suplexes, this one is definitely for you ^^ I find it quite cute!

    Gundam Seed

I watched Gundam Seed and Destiny a while ago. Seed was great but I didn’t like Destiny that much. Shin sucked and most of the new characteres (Stella, etc.) did too. Of course, it has its great moments but I don’t want to spoil anything ^^. Apparently, many Gundam otakus didn’t like this one that much because there’s too much drama and less robots involved compared to other Gundams, but I was almost swept in tears after watching it. Both have an incredibly good sound track. I gotta catch up with Gundam 00, I’ve been told that there’s a lot of backstabbing and Mexican drama involved! (joudan)

    Video Game Developer's Office

Ever wondered how a Video Game Developer’s Office looked like? Well, the title is an euphemism, since we’re just small developers. It’s quite messy (gotta tidy up a bit), but fortunately I didn’t take a picture of the other side, where various handheld consoles, one a prototype from South Korea, developer boards, modems, a Dreamcast, a CRT monitor and TV, some cell phones, and much more stuff compete for space.

Wind and Water Dreamcast 10th Birthday Yuan WorksHappy 10th Birthday Dreamcast! (Image: Yuan Works)

Though a little late announcement, the Sega Dreamcast’s 10th Anniversary was on late 2008. The Dreamcast was one of the most underrated consoles of the time, surpassing the PlayStation 2 in graphics and quality. For some reasons including very bad luck and bad decisions from Sega, the Dreamcast was very short-lived in the Americas, and later cut off from Europe. However, in Japan, the Dreamcast held its title as one of the best modern generation consoles, with official releases years after the console was no longer mainstream.

The Dreamcast fanbase was never dead nor gone, and last November, to honor the Dreamcast, Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles was released as an independent release (同人ソフト), an extensive puzzle game in both English and Japanese!

The game features a professionally pressed CD, an obi strip (spine card collector’s item), and a 40-page full color manual in both English and Japanese. Watch the game trailer below!

    Utada Hikaru J Idol

Most of you are familiar with Utada Hikaru (宇多田 ヒカル), born in 1983, New York. Fluent in both English and Japanese, she’s that cute face who caught us J-Pop fans by surprise on 1999 with her Debut album First Love, which is an all-time number one seller in Japan (I love this version). Well, guess what, besides being an incredibly kawaii girl, she’s also a Tetris otaku who wears geek glasses and will humilliate you in a Tetris match (yes video).

    Comiket Cosplay Bunny

Last December 28th was the Comiket 75 — the world’s largest comic convention, held in the Tokyo Big Sight venue every year. As you can imagine, tons (half a million actually) of otakus, cosplayers, media, and doujin circles. Lots of pictures for you too!
