Was originally writing about sushi for today, but I just couldn’t let today’s megane musume (glasses girl) go in vain. Schoolgirl uniform + glasses + muffler = meccha kawaii~!

Hi everyone ^^
I have great news for you (or for me?), Michael Flux from MichaelFlux.com just told me last week that he needed a guest blogger for one week, and after some hasty preparations today was my first day as a guest blogger, quite an honor!
MichaelFlux.com was launched just three months ago but has been steadily growing, with excellent quality posts as well as beautiful pictures from Japan and many other places. Don’t forget to check his photo walks!
My first post was about Miyajima’s Torii, one of the biggest tourist attractions in Japan. Anyway, go check it out ^^

Looking at the city from Kiyomizudera in Kyoto, a buddhist temple and the biggest wood structure. Supposedly not a single nail holds the temple’s structure!
As I have said countless times, your life is not complete if you don’t go to Kyoto when in Japan ^^

Recognize the person above? Hayao Miyasaki, one of the best J animated filmmakers and my favorite. The above fanart includes many well known characters from his animated films like Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and many more.
If you don’t know him then your life is not complete and you should go watch any of his films. It’s amazing how he can capture the attention of kids and adults with his messages about childhood dreams, environmentalism, and anti-war criticism.
I haven’t watched his latest film yet, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, and I have great expectations. My favorite movie is tied between Mononoke Hime and Nausicaa. Which one’s your favorite? ^^

You’ve probably heard the news about the 1:1 scale Gundam in Odaiba. If you think Transformers is going to lag behind then you’re wrong, above is a giant Optimus Prime somewhere (probably) in China.

I must say Gundam does seem to kick Optimus’ ass in terms of quality and materials ^^; Check out more Giant Gundam pics at Teddy’s Life Photoshoot.

Zerg Swarm pictured on a cake. Looks “delicious” though I would feel bad eating a few drones.
You may be wondering what StarCraft has to do with an Asian-related stuff blog. Well, in case you didn’t know, StarCraft was released more than ten years ago, however, the game is played as a national e-sport in Korea every day, supposedly more than half a million Koreans are playing the game every night, and a great number of international players playing too (I’m one of them). Various major StarCraft leagues exist in Korea, with quite a few number of expectators. Many pro players are treated like movie stars ^^
Here’s an incredible match between Stork and FlaSh, dated 2007:
You may be a little amazed that a game created ten years ago is widely played, but you wouldn’t understand if you are not into it, like me ^^ if you’re up for a game or an IC Cup match I’ll gladly accept.

For one reason or another, Japanese sounds pretty cute, don’t you think? Nice to hear Japanese gals all over speaking their cute language… now imagine if this happened to you:

This is how Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China looks right now. But how did it look exactly 20 years ago?

In June 5th, 1989, amidst clashes in Tiananmen between the Chinese communist government and the democratic party, a courageous man known as the Tank Man stood in front of Chinese Tanks, impeding their advance.

Here’s a closer look. Little is known about what happened to the Tank Man, but twenty years later he is still one of the most iconic figures of the Chinese communism.

Democratic protests before the military took control.
Instant Ramen is not a blog about politics and I hate to discuss politics and love having Chinese/Taiwanese blood. One thing I do have to say: remember that oppression is not new and hiding out or conveniently forgetting or not writing in our text books about what a nation has done to their own or other people is a thing of everyday’s life in every government, Japan, China, USA, Russia, the list goes on. But the worst thing we can do is point fingers at who we think is doing bad things and forgetting that our own people have and do bad stuff too. Saying that what someone else did was worse is just a cheap excuse for evading what we have done bad.
Phew, that was my political whining for today ^^;;

That’s right, the new installment of the MGS series, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker announced by Hideo Kojima just a while ago, will take place in Costa Rica (my homeland!), apparently in 1974 on the Caribbean Coast province of Limón. Take a look at the trailer:
I’ve always wondered how realistic the MGS games are, and this will finally be my opportunity to have a good idea about it ^^. The idea behind this new Metal Gear Solid is that Costa Rica abolished any militar activity (that’s true just in case, no military in Costa Rica!) many years ago and so it is a good place to set up the new Outer Heaven or sort.
Anyway, I’m really hoping to play this one as it will be fun to see how they think Costa Rica looked more than ten years before I was born. Here’s a picture of Costa Rica, not from the Caribbean coast but you get the idea. I can already start imagining Snake running around!
